HDEP InternationalWe believe that a customer's data will be looked at in depth only twice -- first, when we are keying it; second, when we are verifying it. Therefore it is critical for us to be as knowledgeable as the client about the uses of the data, and the methods of its collection and delivery, so that we can identify and report any unusual data elements recorded in the source documents.
Our main task is to submit data that has been looked at with discerning eyes and an alert mind - before it is converted to computer format.

HDEP International has production facilities in Manila, Philippines and New Delhi, India. We have 400 plus employees between the two facilities.
All our operators are fluent in English and are tested at a minimum of 12,000 key-strokes per hour with 99% accuracy. All operators are college educated, and are familiar with American terminology and standard abbreviations. The operators are selected with the understanding that their job will require judgment, coding and data abstraction, as well as data entry. They are trained to recognize anomalies in the source documents and to take action based on the customer's use of the data.
The facilities are equipped to key from microfilm, microfiche, digital images and paper.
TopIn addition to the data entry staff, we maintain a staff of five full time programmers who work with "C" and UNIX.
HDEP International's facilities are equipped with multiple imaging stations. These stations are used to support the creation of text plus image databases, like electronic technical manuals, which will be made available on CD-ROM.
While production keying is done in Manila, Philippines and New Delhi, India, HDEP International's research and development work is carried out in the United States. We are currently developing specialized software to incorporate optical character recognition (OCR) into production data entry. We are also working to develop economical methods to digitize microfilm and index the scanned images.

QUALITY ASSURANCEThe cornerstone of our business is to produce the highest quality output. We have deliberately kept our facility size relatively modest and targeted customers who require the very best data entry output.
Accurate output depends on thorough operator training and constant monitoring of the output produced by each operator. Each operator goes through a comprehensive training period before starting production. Every operator and verifier is monitored daily to confirm that accuracy standards are being met. When we guarantee an output accuracy, we know that we are actually meeting it, every day.
In addition to operator accuracy, we incorporate extensive pre-entry batch control checks, and computerized post-entry computer validation checks.
TopMany projects have exceptional circumstances where the data recorded on the source documents does not fall within the data entry specifications. We immediately inform the customer's technical staff and request further direction. The mid-project directions are incorporated into updated keying instructions.
Each batch of completed data is accompanied by a set of reports, the most important of which are the assumption and exception reports. The assumption reports include any updates to instructions and any assumptions that the operators made that were not explicitly covered by the keying instructions. The exception reports identify any data which fall outside of accepted range values, any documents containing illegible characters, as well as any records which the operators wish to bring to the attention of the client as noteworthy. Exception report formats and content are developed in consultation with client staff at the start of the project.

HDEP International is actively pursuing opportunities on the Internet. We find that there is a natural synergy between the Internet and our other areas of business. Clients with large data entry requirements see the Internet as a means to provide distributed access to the data. Clients who are primarily interested in the Internet find that our offshore data entry facility can reduce their costs.
More and more of our customers are displaying or distributing information over the internet. They rely on our experience. We understand their needs and develop systems and procedures to meet their specifications.
Although we can hand-craft individual Web pages such as this one, we believe that our future lies in putting up millions of pages at a time. We can generate the pages in advance and store them on a server, or we can generate them on demand. Either way, we create a template for a Web page in a kind of extended HTML, and let the computer merge the template against a database to generate the Web pages. The process is similar to generating form letters with a mail merge. We are currently working on a project which will require the generation of about a million Web pages.
Our platform for interactive Web pages is Microsoft's Active Server Pages. We run IIS on Windows 2000, delivering pages with HTML and JavaScript on the client side, VBScript on the server side, and SQL Server as the back-end database. With this combination of tools, we can overcome the limitations of HTML and make Web pages do just about anything.
